But when I used my public IP and sent packet from remote machine it doesn't show anything. Still, I started listening on the 30001 port and sent packets using netcat from the same machine using my local IP in the network (192.168.0.102) and it worked. I tried using netcat to get some idea but I didn't get much, partly because I didn't really know what to do. I tried to ping my public IP from another machine connected to the internet but it didn't work. I have also configured my router for port forwarding. When the server is running, netstat -na | grep 30000 Which indeed is supposed to be the output if everything is successful. 20:45:22: WARNING: NodeDefManager: Ignoring CONTENT_IGNORE redefinition 20:45:22: : Automatically selecting world at

I'm running the minetest server using minetestserver and it gives the following output : 20:45:22: WARNING: Couldn't find a locale directory! I am trying to run a minetest server from my computer (Linux) but I'm unable to connect it from another computer connected to the internet in the different network.
#MINETEST SERVER HOSTING FREE#
Perhaps other forum members DO know of a hosting service that is free and that allows customization though.I hope this is the correct stackexchange site to ask this question. You have to provide a reason for players to not go to one of the big servers, or to leave one of them, or at least to not spend all their time there, so that you get players.

Many of the servers with lots of players have been around a long time and are minetest game with mods. Several servers have a few players, and a few have Lots of players. It looks like about 85 - 90 % of servers have no players on them. Whatever game you choose, you will have to put serious time into designing the game and making it all work together for it to be fun. If you just use MT game with downloaded mods, its likely that it wont be unique enough to be popular. I say this after starting to host a server that is not terribly unique though apparently it is fun enough to bring a few players. People wont flood to your server unless it is truly unique. So again, my suggestion would be to learn as much as you can about server ownership so that someone else would find it valuable to have you as a team member, and build relationships with people who could host a server.Īnother bit of advice: you may feel let down after you start hosting a server. Something I have seen here on the forums is someone offering vanilla MT game servers for free, but if you want to add mods, you have to pay. Therefore, if they are offering it to many people, they have to have a way to pay for it. Not necessarily a lot per server, but it adds up. The reason for this is that running a server and making it accessible to you does cost money. I don't know that there are any hosts that let you have it free AND customize your game.

Then you put in a lot of time to the project to make it actually a joint project.
#MINETEST SERVER HOSTING HOW TO#
Perhaps they don't know how to set it up and debug it and keep it running, and you do. One suggestion is to be friends with someone who can run a server, and to work with them.
